A picture is worth a thousand words. On the other hand, what is wrong with having a thousand and one words? Words can illustrate images and images can describe words. The combination of words and images working with one another can create very powerful messages. I love examining the relationships between these worlds; how the shape and color of the type written word can be just as powerful as the words themselves and the visuals that share the same page. I often find my thought occuring to me like storyboard images. Each frame a part of the thought. The colors setting the tone. When I look at something I dont see just an object, I see art. Since I was young, I have noticed the element of design in everything from cars and toasters to logos and advertisements. Everything has to be designed and I find that simply amazing.
I have set my sights on graphic
arts with a concentration in graphic design as my
undergraduate major field of study. I feel that communication
design is an effective and natural way of expressing
concepts and ideas. I am excited by the prospect
of growing with each year's experiences and seeing
my raw talents refined through the comprehensive
and creatively stimulting curriculum. If I am to
be successful in the highly competitive field of
graphic design it is imperative that I take it upon
myself to broaden my artistic and creative thinking.
The vibrant and stimulating environment of art school
will help my creativity seek an entirely new level.
My current work is full of experimentation
of new mediums and techniques. I feel that I do my
best with I am challenged with a new medium. I actually
find that I favor works that were particularly challenging.
I love to use mediums to help create styles and feelings.
I use my art not only to demonstrate techinque and
to learn, but to express my self. I feel that there
is much for me to learn and I hope that I will be
able to attend an art school where I will be able
to persue my dreams.
It is my dream, my passion, to work
for a company whose innovation is greater than the
industry standard. I would love to work as part of
a design team at a company like Apple Computer or
Toyota. Like myfascination with graphic design, I
have also been drawn to the design of products such
as cars and computers. Inspired by the works of the
famous graphic and industrial designer Raymond Loewy,
I would like to further my education beyond a BFA
by pursuing a masters degree in industrial design.
By bridging my knowledge of graphic design and industrial
desing, I see myself as a successful and innovative
designer.
"Design is the ultimate synthesizing
discipline. It's all about bringing things together...having
a rich background is only going to help the design." Jose R. Nieto, Design Director in the creative offices
service of Northeastern University.
