LISA GERBEN
Lafayette High School

There is no specific word or phrase that could sum up my art entirely. Throughout high school I have strived to not develop a rigid style all my own because my goal has been versatility. I wanted to be experienced in a wide variety of media and styles so I can express my emotions and creativity through many different ways.

My art means the world to me, simply because it is a depiction of how I see and feel about the world. It is a very personal thing to have my private thoughts on display, so I try to incorporate them subtly so that not every passer-by could read what is in my heart.

Although I have not decided what career I want to be involved in, I expect art to be my life after art school. I know that my job will be in the art field, whether it is being an artist and selling my own, or designing advertising campaigns for a company, or teaching others the gift of art. No matter where life takes me, I cannot help but always be creating. It is a passion I will have my entire life that will never be satisfied.

My favorite art project of all was making a chicken wire figure curled up in a fetal position. I loved this project because the size was that of a normal human being and I had to find ways to manipulate the chicken wire so that it would take the form of a human, while being careful to not be cut by the edges.
